Senior Friendship Centers

Senior Friendship Centers Health Services were founded in 1978, in cooperation with the Sarasota County Medical Society and Sarasota County Public Health Department, under a licensure agreement with the State of Florida. They are considered a national model for the delivery of health care to seniors.

The Center for Healthy Aging provides medical and dental care for persons 55 and older on limited incomes; programs to support healthy lifestyles and preventive education for the community at large; and a variety of educational programs for professionals in the health and human services. The center is staffed by volunteers, including 55 physicians, 17 dentists, 3 pharmacists, 30 nurses, 20 secretaries and 10 clinical aides. Last year SFC's Health and Dental Services in Sarasota provided 5,374 medical visits and 947 dental visits, and processed 1,624 requests for prescriptions valued at $300,000 for seniors in need. More than a half-million dollars in free care was provided to the community in 2001.
